Low Incidence Disabilities
The LIDS team consists of highly trained individuals from a variety of disciplines that are able to provide diagnostic services for students with low incidence disabilities.
What is a low incidence disability?
According to the IDEA, a low-incidence disability is defined as:
- (A) a visual or hearing impairment, or simultaneous visual and hearing impairments;
- (B) a significant cognitive impairment; or
- (C) any impairment for which a small number of personnel with highly specialized skills and knowledge are needed in order for children with that impairment to receive early intervention services or a free appropriate public education
Low-incidence disabilities occur less frequently in the general population than other disabilities areas. Disabilities include
- Visual impairments
- Hearing impairments
- Deaf-blindness
- Physical disabilities
- Severe and multiple disabilities
- Significant developmental delay
- Complex health issues
- Autism
