In middle school, we work to further communication using verbal speech, simple sign language, AAC devices and/or PECS visuals. We focus on life skills and independent work during student stations and social skills throughout the day with deliveries to other classrooms. Academic skills are exercised during morning meetings, student work stations, and group lessons. We use the Autism research-based curriculums Links and STAR to provide students with meaningful instruction with both group and individualized lesson times. Students are given the opportunity to participate in art each day, giving them many different sensory inputs. Students enjoy the playground, playing with the interactive BEAM projector, swinging, jumping on the trampoline, bouncing on the yoga ball, doing puzzles, looking through books, playing with sensory boxes, and playing with fidget toys during their choice time throughout the day.
